Information for Parents

FOSTERING THE COMPETITIVE SPIRIT

As a parent, you play a significant role in creating a positive competition experience for your child. Please read the basic information below. It will help you and your family to prepare and enjoy the day of the tournament.

Tournaments can be an important tool in nurturing the competitive spirit within your child. The experience of competing will also help to deepen the bond that your child has with his/her learning and will create a focus that only the challenge of training for a competition can bring.

The mental skills developed through Jiu-Jitsu competition, such as self-control, staying calm under pressure, attentive listening, grit, and resilience are beneficial beyond their martial arts journey and have been shown to contribute greatly to the overall development of children.

We highly recommend you take a moment to read the CompNet Parents Guide. This is an invaluable resource to help you prepare and align expectations for the event.

Your Child's Registration

  1. The registration includes the tournament fee and a tournament t-shirt.
  2. When you register your child, you will receive one complimentary spectator ticket which you should add to the basket before check-out. Additional tickets can be purchased during the registration check-out process (with a 25% discount) or at the door.
  3. Your registration is fully refundable in the form of tournament credit one week before the event. Tournament credits are transferable and can be used to register for future events. The competition is non-refundable within seven days of the event.

How to register your child

  1. When registering your child for the tournament, it is essential to have a conversation with their coach or professor. Ask them if they feel your child is ready and how you and they can work together to help your child prepare for the tournament. Also, you and your child coach should decide in which division your child should register.
  2. A CompNet division is built by three elements: Age, Rank, and Weight.
  3. Age: The age groups for CompNet Tournaments are for the child’s age on the day of the tournament and are as follows: Tiny Champs (3 and 4 years old), Little Champions 1 (5 and 6 years old), Little Champions 2 (7 and 8 years old), Juniors 1 (9 and 10 years old), Juniors 2 (11 and 12 years old), Teens (13 to 15 years old), Juvenile (16 and 17 years old).
  4. Rank: Please select your child’s current belt group: White, Grey, Yellow, Orange, Green and Blue.
  5. Weight: Weigh in your child wearing the full Gracie Barra Uniform (Kimono, Rashguard, and belt). The official weigh-in will take place the morning before the athlete's first match. Monitor your child's weight during the weeks leading into the competition. Any changes in the division must be made through Smoothcomp seven days before the event.
  6. Click here to download the CN Kids Weight Chart or the CN Official Juvenile Weight Chart
  7. Athletes who do not meet the weight requirement for the division on the morning of the competition are subjected to immediate disqualification.
  8. Most weight categories are up to categories (i.e. up to 22kg) which your child must weigh under on the day. Please check the details of the weight category carefully.
  9. There will be no consolation matches for children who do not make weight.
  10. Changes to registration by parents: The deadline to make any changes to your child's division is seven days before the event.
  11. Changes to registration by organisers: The tournament organizers will use their best judgment to create competitive matches for every athlete. When registering, you will be asked if you agree to move your child up in weight or age if they are the only competitor in the division.
  12. If your child is alone in the bracket and you do not wish to move up in age or weight, you will be given the option for either your child to be declared the winner of the division and receive the medal at the podium or be offered a refund in the form of a tournament credit by the organisers.
