CN Code of Conduct

We are all held to a high standard and must responsibly conduct ourselves, upholding the values of Gracie Barra.  These expectations apply to coaches and athletes on and off the mat.

Prohibited conduct for Gracie Barra athletes and coaches includes but is not limited to, the following:

1. Participation in disrespectful banter, or “trash talking,” to other athletes, either in person or on social media;
2. Actual or threatened physical violence against another person;
3. Assault and/or battery;
4. Violent or threatening behavior toward any person involved in the tournament, including but not limited to competitors, coaches, spectators, referees, and tournament staff.
5. Stalking, harassment, or similar forms of intimidation, whether in person, by mail, or by electronic communication (including social media);
6. Illegal possession of a gun or other weapon
7. Referees must be respected and held in the highest esteem.  If there is a disagreement, it must be handled professionally and respectfully, always keeping in mind their challenging role in our tournaments.
8. Coaches or athletes can not talk directly to the referee during the match.
9. Coaches or athletes cannot make inappropriate gestures towards the opponents, coaches, parents, referees, or any event official.
10. Coaches and athletes cannot destroy or attempt to destroy any CompNet or venue equipment. 

Dress Code

1. Athletes and coaches must always wear a t-shirt while attending a CompNet Tournament. If an athlete needs to change uniform, they must do so in the changing room or private setting.
2. Athletes and coaches must not wear any t-shirts or garments deemed inappropriate, inadequate, or offensive by the referee or tournament director. 

Substance Use

Substance use in athletes is a dangerous and unethical practice.  To promote Jiu-Jitsu as a drug-free sport, uphold ethical behavior in sports, and ensure safe and equitable competition, CompNet prohibits the use of prohibited substances per the USADA Anti-Doping code and list of substances (see details at https://www.usada.org/resources/publications-and-policies/).

The use, possession, or trafficking of prohibited substances and/or taking measures to mask the use of prohibited substances by any participant in competitions is unacceptable and will not be tolerated.

Disciplinary measures

Disciplinary measures will be taken against anyone who violates the CompNet Code of Conduct. In the event of a violation, the following steps will be taken:

1. The first offense will result in an issued warning and the offender will be asked to leave the immediate area.
2. A second offense will result in the offender being prohibited from performing in the capacity he/she is attending the event for.
3. The third offense will result in the offender being asked to leave the event and not return for the duration of the event.

Suppose the occasion arises that an individual is removed from an event due to violations of the CompNet Code of Conduct. In that case, a report must be made to the Gracie Barra Ethics and Compliance Office using https://graciebarra.link/ethics. The complaint initiation should include the following: describe the event(s), dates of the event(s), parties involved, witnesses, and describe/provide documentation or evidence.

After the proper investigation is conducted and proper evidence is established that anyone has engaged in conduct prohibited by the Gracie Barra or CompNet Code of Conduct, the violator will be subject to discipline defined by the GB Ethics and Compliance office in collaboration with the tournament director.
